Injection Plant

Macquarie Drilling Pty Ltd has developed a customised rig for the injection of in-situ groundwater remediation chemicals. The rig has been used successfully on a number of projects and is now offered as part of an integrated service package to our environmental clients.

The Macquarie Drilling injection rig can cost effectively mix and inject large quantities of in-situ remedial compounds including chemical oxidants, emulsified oils, enhanced bioremediation agents (eg, RegenOx, permanganate, Fenton’s Reagent, persulfates, HRC, ORC, Permeox, Adventus EHC, HRC-Advanced, Vegetable Oils, Sodium Lactate, EOS, Inoculum, MRC, polysulfides). Chemical injection is widely used in the United States with a high level of success and regulator acceptance.

Groundwater remediation materials are most easily applied to unconsolidated formations using specially-designed direct-push tooling and pumping equipment. In addition to direct push, Macquarie Drilling can also inject into conventional monitoring wells, open boreholes and in fractured rock using specially developed isolation packers.

Materials should be injected over the entire vertical extent of the contaminated groundwater zone. The process involves the establishment of injection points on a grid pattern. Remediation materials are then pre-mixed and pumped from a high-pressure pump, through an appropriate hose equipped with pressure relief valve and pressure gauge connected directly to the probe rods. For "bottom up" injection Macquarie Drilling has developed a system to retract rods during injection. Rigs are also able to undertake "top down" Injection as required.
